Levi’s® to Open Third Chicagoland Store in Bucktown

June 4, 2007

Popular jeans maker, Levi’s®, one of the most recognizable brand names in the world, recently signed a new lease to open its third Chicagoland location at 1552 N. Milwaukee Avenue in the Bucktown neighborhood. The 3,250 square foot new lease transaction places Levi’s® among the hip boutiques and brands that have come to define the Bucktown neighborhood as one of the hottest retail corridors in Chicago. Scheduled to open its doors to shoppers on June 22, 2007, Levi’s® will join Urban Outfitters, G-Star Denim, Scoop NYC and American Apparel on Milwaukee Avenue and will be just a few steps away from the recently announced Marc by Marc Jacobs store. Janika Brenner, of Baum Realty Group, represented property owner Preferred Development in the transaction.

“The Milwaukee Avenue corridor is flourishing and is an ideal location for Levi’s® to open an additional store in Chicago,” said Brenner. “The space boasts great visibility and is surrounded by retailers that are thriving and that draw a similar customer base.”

Several years ago, Preferred Development recognized the gentrification and has since made a large investment in the Wicker Park area.

“We now own several properties on Milwaukee Avenue and are in the process of rehabbing the retail space and storefronts,” said Preferred Development president, Evan Oliff. “Baum Realty Group and Janika Brenner have done a great job identifying key retail prospects and getting the space leased.”

Brenner is close to completing two more transactions on behalf of Preferred Development, making her the largest contributor to Baum Realty’s 20 retail transactions in the Bucktown/Wicker Park neighborhood over the past three years. Brenner is credited for bringing many of the hip boutiques and trendy designers to the area during her career at Baum Realty.

Headquartered in San Francisco, California, the company has recently been transforming itself by revamping product lines, marketing initiatives and retail store formats. The results have been positive, putting the denim giant back on the fashion map. Levi’s® has two other Chicagoland stores, one located at 600 North Michigan Avenue and a recently opened location in Evanston, Illinois. Lorraine Adney of The McDevitt Company represented Levi’s® in both the Bucktown and Evanston transactions.

Chicago-based Baum Realty Group, Inc. is one of the nation’s premier retail brokerage firms. For the past fifteen years the award-winning company has provided comprehensive real estate services for a diversified clientele of property owners and tenants. The firm represents prominent national, regional and local tenants such as Starbuck’s Coffee, FedEx Kinko’s, Panera Bread, Washington Mutual, Morton’s Steakhouse, Chipotle Mexican Grill, Kay Jewelers and many others.

Preferred Development is one of Chicagoland’s most aggressive single and multi-tenant retail developers. Founded in 1993, the company now owns a portfolio of properties with more than 750,000 square feet of investment-grade real estate.
