Marc Jacobs to Open First Chicago Store

January 22, 2007

Marc Jacobs recently signed a new lease to open its first freestanding store in Chicago. The 4,000 square foot space is located at 1714 W Damen Avenue in Chicago’s Bucktown/Wicker Park neighborhood. The Marc by Marc Jacobs store will join other fashionable boutiques such as Scoop NYC, Raizy and G-Star Denim that have moved to the neighborhood in the past three years. In the summer of 2007 Marc Jacobs will open in the most sought after retail space in Bucktown. Baum Realty Group brokers Janika Brenner, Anthony Campagni and Adam Secher represented the landlord in the transaction.

“The addition of Marc Jacobs is a great fit for Bucktown and it gives the area even more appeal,” said Brenner. Brenner and Secher account for seventeen real estate transactions in the Bucktown/Wicker Park neighborhood in the past three years, bringing exclusive boutiques and high-profile companies to the area.

“The Bucktown area has changed dramatically in the past three years,” said Secher. “The shops and stores found in the neighborhood can’t be found anywhere else in Chicago, making it attractive for consumers and retailers alike.”
Marc Jacobs is arguably the leading American fashion designer today setting the pace for recent style trends of the 2006/2007 season. Marc Jacobs attended Parsons School of Design before launching his namesake label in 1986. Luxury French house Louis Vuitton hired him to design their first ready-to-wear line in 1997. In 2001 Jacobs debuted his critically acclaimed secondary collection, Marc by Marc Jacobs, a contemporary collection for both men and women of edgy and eclectic pieces with a slightly retro feel. His accompanying accessory lines garner in-store waiting lists every season. While Marc by Marc Jacobs is carried at upscale department stores throughout the city, the Bucktown store will be the first freestanding Marc by Marc Jacobs venue in Chicago. Marc Jacobs stores can be found in eight countries and in American cities such as New York City, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco and Las Vegas. Marc Jacobs was represented by Lorraine Adney of The McDevitt Company.
