2005 : FLIGHT 001 CLEARED FOR LANDING IN CHICAGO Baum Realty Group Negotiates Lease for Travel Accessories Retailer’s First Midwest Location Oct. 17, 2005 Flight 001, the New York City-based travel boutique phenomenon, has signed a lease to open its first location in the Midwest. The 1,700-square-foot store is slated to open in spring 2006 at 1133 N. State St. in Chicago’s Gold Coast neighborhood. This will be the retailer’s fourth retail location in the U.S., including others in New York City, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Earlier in the year, Chicago’s Museum of Contemporary Art created a “shop in a shop” of Flight 001 products in conjunction with the exhibit: Universal Experience: Art, Life, and the Tourist’s Eye. The concept of Flight 001 (pronounced “flight one”) is taken from Pan Am’s iconic transcontinental Flight 001 that circled the world in 48 hours. With that in mind, each store is designed with a retro-modern flair creating an efficient shopping venue with the distinct look and feel of the cabin of a 747 jumbo jet, complete with curved walls and walnut paneling. While each store’s interior design is inspired by the glamorous golden age of air travel, its stylish and functional merchandise appeals to today’s modern traveler. This includes travel bags from Mandarina Duck, the Hip Hotel line of books, travel sized aromatherapy candles, packable games and Flight 001-brand travel accessories including its award-winning “Spacepak” line of item-specific packing bags. During lease negotiations, Flight 001 was represented by Lorraine Adney of Baum Realty Group. The landlord, BAH Properties Inc., was represented by Sharon Kahan of CB Richard Ellis. “This store is a jetsetter’s dream,” said Baum Realty Group’s Adney. “Flight 001 merchandise addresses every travel need with high style and great functionality. The store experience makes planning a trip as much fun as taking one.” Founded in 1991, Baum Realty Group is one of Chicago’s leading retail brokerage firms, providing comprehensive retail leasing services for building owners and retailers.
