NEW OWNERS PILOT MAJOR CHANGES AT THE BEST WESTERN PALWAUKEE INN & CONFERENCE CENTER
Open House Celebration Set For Nov. 17

Nov. 11, 2004

In just five months since purchasing the 144-room Palwaukee Inn & Conference Center in Wheeling, Ill., the new owners have infused it with capital for new improvements and contemporary interior design upgrades. The hotel has also joined the Best Western family, the largest hotel chain in the world.

Home to a vintage, four-lane bowling alley and situated adjacent to the Palwaukee Municipal Airport, the Best Western Palwaukee Inn & Conference Center is uniquely positioned to accommodate both business and leisure travelers seeking guest rooms, meeting space and special event banquet rooms.

"A new era is starting," said Barbara Bruns, the hotel's director of sales. "Our owners grew up in this area and are bringing a whole new level of service commitment to guests and the community. Results of customers surveyed have guided our key upgrades, which include complimentary high speed wireless Internet access in all guest rooms and the addition of a new restaurant, Kabak, and banquet catering facility managed by owners of the acclaimed Russian Tea Time in Chicago's Loop."

Kabak serves authentic cuisine of the former Soviet Union. The restaurant features five private dining rooms for special events and has a new sound and lighting system to create a dramatic and entertaining atmosphere.

"This is an outstanding location to do business," said Bruns. "We are close to great entertainment venues, a variety of top restaurants, including our own Russian addition, shopping and sports. With so many corporate offices and headquarters nearby plus our easy access from nearby residential neighborhoods, the opportunity to transform an existing hotel into a Best Western-quality inn and conference center is exciting."

The property also is adjacent to Palwaukee Municipal Airport, which was named the 2004 Reliever Airport of the Year by the Illinois Department of Transportation, Division of Aeronautics. Relievers are located close to major international hubs to draw general aviation traffic away from an already crowded airline airport. Palwaukee is home to nearly 300 aircraft, employs 300 people and recorded nearly 173,000 takeoffs and landings in 2003.

Thanks to its proximity to the Palwaukee Municipal Airport, the hotel was selected in 1972 by The Brunswick Corporation as a way to showcase its then state-of-the-art bowling alley technology. Based in nearby Lake Forest, Ill., Brunswick was faced with the challenge of how to showcase its newest lane designs and technology. Brunswick chose to build a showcase bowling alley attached to the hotel and then flew prospective customers into the Palwaukee Airport and brought them to the hotel to demonstrate the equipment and stay overnight. Today, the Palwaukee Lanes bowling alley has been restored to its original glory and is available for private parties.

As part of its commitment to the community, the hotel is exhibiting works of two local artists – Syndy Ziegenfuss and Ryan Zoghlin – in its guest rooms and public areas. Both are graduates of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. The hotel also will be reaching out to provide area fire stations with complimentary overnight stay coupons to use with residents dislocated by emergencies.
